Abstract

The aim of our study was to determine the knee isokinetic profiles of football and taekwondo players and to investigate the asymmetric power differences in the quadriceps and hamstring muscles. Twenty-two athletes with a training history of at least 5 years and active participation in football and taekwondo were included in the study. After a 15-minute dynamic and static warm-up, the tests were performed on an isokinetic dynamometer (Humac Norm Testing and Rehabilitation System, CSMI, USA). The tests were performed between 10:00 and 15:00 in the morning. Peak torque angular velocities at 60o s-1, 180o s-1 and 2400 s-1 and con/con contractions were determined. Bilateral force ratios and ipsilateral force ratios were recorded in %. When comparing the peak torque of the right and left knee flexor and extensor muscles of the soccer players and taekwondo athletes, a significant difference was observed between the ipsilateral H:Q 240 (%) strength ratios of the soccer players, but no significant difference was observed for the other parameters. When comparing the peak torque of the knee flexor and extensor muscles in the right and left extremities, no significant difference was found for any of the parameters (p>0.05). When comparing the bilateral measurements of football players and taekwondo athletes, there was a significant difference between H:H 240 (%) bilateral strength ratios (p=0.009), but no significant difference was found in other bilateral strength ratios (p>0.05). As a result, it was found that the bilateral and ipsilateral strength ratios of taekwondo and football players were similar, except for the H:H 240 bilateral strength ratio.
