https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/318

Obesity is a global health problem that is increasing in prevalence and poses significant risks to the health of individuals. In recent years, bariatric surgery, especially sleeve gastrectomy, has become a widely adopted approach in the treatment of obesity. However, the role of post-operative physical activity, especially in women, has not been adequately studied. The aim of this study is to compare the body composition and blood lipid levels of adult obese women who do physical activity and those who do not for a year after bariatric surgery. Twenty-one women (PA group / non-PA group) participants with a sedentary lifestyle and a body mass index above 35 were included in the study. The PA group performed regular aerobic exercises, while the non-PA group maintained a sedentary lifestyle. Measurements were made in both groups preoperatively, at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. The results showed that physical activity has a significant effect on body composition. Regarding blood lipid levels, physical activity contributed to significantly improvements in cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein and triglyceride levels over the 12-month period. However, no significant relationship was found between physical activity and high-density lipoprotein levels. In summary, this study highlights the beneficial effects of physical activity on body composition and some blood lipid parameters in women after sleeve gastrectomy.
Ulas Can YildirimOktay BanliMehmet GuluMonira I. https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/239

In this study, it was aimed to determine the perceptions of physical education teachers and pre-service teachers towards their colleagues and students with special needs through metaphors. An interview form was created as a data collection tool. In the interview form, they were asked to complete two sentences, the first sentence being "Students with special needs are like... in physical education lessons. Because..." and the second sentence "The physical education teacher with special needs is like..., because...". The research was planned with phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs. The participant group of the study consisted of 39 physical education teachers and 58 physical education teacher candidates, totaling 97 people. The qualitative data were analysed by content analysis method. As a result of the analysis of the first sentence, four categories were obtained: “Student alone due to disability", "Student who attracts attention/exemplary student", "Student who needs adaptations and support in the lesson", "Student who struggles". As a result of the analysis of the second sentence, the categories of ''Teacher who is normal/like everyone else'', “Inspiring/leading teacher", ''Successful/struggling teacher'" were obtained. As a result, it was found that the participants' perceptions of a student with special needs differed from their perceptions of a teacher with special needs. Accordingly, while the perception towards the teacher with special needs was more positive, the perception towards the students was more negative. In this direction, the inclusion of teachers and students with special needs in the general education system can contribute to the realisation of inclusive education by being role models with their exemplary lives.
Busra Sungu

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/316

The aim of this research is to examine the mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between burnout and performance in wrestling coaches. The participants of the study were 160 volunteer wrestling coaches aged between 20-64 (38.47±8.36), 85% of whom were male and 15% of whom were female. The data were collected from the participants face-to-face and online on a voluntary basis by convenience sampling method at the Turkish Wrestling Championships organized within the scope of the Turkish Wrestling Federation 2023 annual program. Psychological Capital Questionnaire Short Form (PCQ-12), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Job Performance Scale Short Form (JPS) and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. The confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the scales. The mediation role was analyzed using Hayes SPSS PROCESS macro (Model 4). According to the results, burnout has a negative effect on performance and psychological capital, whereas psychological capital has a positive effect on performance. According to the upper and lower limits of Bootstrap confidence intervals, the mediating effect of psychological capital on the relationship between burnout and performance was found to be significant. As a conclusion, while burnout decreases coaches' performance, psychological capital increases it. At the same time, psychological capital plays a mediating role in increasing performance by reducing the negative effect of burnout on performance.
Ismail Koc

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/383

Despite the benefits of physical activity and exercise for human health, many people do not engage in physical activity and exercise despite the well-known benefits for human health. Without access to active commuting or other school-related physical activity opportunities, adolescents are at risk of increased screen time use and weight gain. Physical activity barriers need to be investigated especially in adolescence. This study investigates the relationships between specific types of leisure activities and barriers to physical activity in adolescence. The study was undertaken with 1312 students in 14 different schools in Ankara City. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationships between specific types of leisure activities (outdoor, physical, hobbies and indoor, cultural, home-centered, and social and volunteering) and outcome variables. After controlling for covariates, it was revealed that outdoor activities and social activities were associated with all outcome variables. Volunteer activities were positively related to health perception. Negative relationships were observed between safety barriers and physical activities, individual barriers, and cultural activities. These findings suggest that promoting positive social interaction in recreational settings and encouraging participation in volunteer activities are important factors contributing to physical activity during adolescence.
Cihan AyhanHüseyin GumusBilal Caglayan

Recreational activities can provide physical, physiological, psychological or social benefits to individuals, and in this respect, it is possible for individuals to be satisfied with their spare time or to increase their level of satisfaction. On the other hand, stress can reduce the positive mood of individuals, thus negatively affecting their quality of life. From this point of view, the aim of this research is to examine the effect of perceived stress on leisure satisfaction. A total of 447 volunteers, 237 women and 210 men, participated in different recreational activities (sportive, social, artistic or cultural) in the research. The participants' perceived stress was determined by the "Perceived Stress Scale (PSÖ-4)" and their leisure satisfaction levels were determined through the "Leisure Time Satisfaction Scale (BZTS)" scales. The structural model, which was constructed after the reliability and validity tests for the scales, was tested in the AMOS program. The stress perceived by the participants explains the social dimension of leisure satisfaction by 37.7%, while the physiological dimension explains 36.2% and the psychological dimension 38.8%. As a result, it has been understood that the perceived stress level of individuals involved in recreational activities is an important determinant of leisure satisfaction.
Ramazan Ozavci

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/376

Generation Z, born into a digitalizing world at the beginning of this century, started using mobile phones, tablets and laptops widely and intensively at a very young age. There are findings in the literature that this habit in adolescence may cause digital game addiction and restrict mobility. The aim of this study is to try to determine whether there is a relationship between digital game addiction and physical activities of undergraduate students. In this context, predictive correlational and causal comparison model were used in the study through a quantitative measurement. The relationship between digital game addiction and physical activity level was examined through the inventory prepared for the research. As a result of the data analysis of the study, while there was no significant difference in terms of physical activity level according to gender, it was determined that male participants had a significantly higher level of digital game addiction than female participants. According to the findings of the research, 90% of university students play digital games, but approximately 10% of families are concerned about playing digital games and control their children while they play. The level of physical activity also differed significantly between the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and the students of other faculties. Positive relationships were also found between the duration of playing digital games, digital game addiction and playing games on different game platforms. As the playing time increases, the number of platforms and the level of addiction increases. On the other hand, no relationship was found between MET value indicating physical activity and digital game addiction.
Serkan EsenSerpil BaserTuna Uslu

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/374

The study's main purpose is to determine the disability status of elite Turkish wrestlers in the young and senior categories according to Freestyle and Greko-Romen wrestling styles and to determine the precautions to be taken to prevent possible injuries in today's wrestling. Fifty-eight wrestlers in Freestyle and 72 wrestlers in Greco-Roman style were followed. Student t-tests- and "chi-square" tests were used for statistical analysis. It has been determined that there is a difference in the injury exposure of the wrestlers during active sports according to the wrestling style (Chiquare = 9.82, p<0.05). In the distribution of total number of injuries according to wrestling year, those injured 2 or 3 times increased significantly as the wrestling year increased (Chi-square 21.55, p<0.001). There are significant differences in the neck, back, shoulder and collarbone, rotator caf, other muscles, nose, finger, elbow, knee and below the knee, ankle, chest, and abdominal regions among the injured areas of the wrestlers according to the style (p<0.05 and p<0,001). The difference in the distribution of injury types in training and competitions according to wrestling style was not statistically significant (Chi-square =1.02, p=0.196). A significant difference was found in the participation of the wrestlers in the competitions according to the styles when they were injured (p<0.001). It has been determined that freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers have more injuries during training. As the number of wrestling years increases, so does the number of injuries. Greco-Roman wrestlers were injured more in the neck, back, abdomen and shoulder regions than freestyle wrestlers. Freestyle wrestlers suffered more injuries in the knee and ankle region.
Fatih KarakasYener Aksoy

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/292

The emergence of climbing as a competitive discipline has led to research on many subjects. Many of these studies have focused on evaluating the contribution of anthropometric and upper extremity strength characteristics to sport climbing. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between forearm and hand anthropometric characteristics and grip strength of elite and recreational sport climbers. Forty male athletes, including national team sport climbers (N=20) and recreational sport climbers (N=20) aged 18-23 years, participated in the study. Anthropometric measurements of the athletes; height, weight and BMI (body mass index), anthropometric measurements of the dominant hand (hand length, palmar length, finger length, wrist circumference, hand width), forearm anthropometric measurements (forearm length, forearm circumference), shape index, hand surface area, palmar length/width, hand length/height formulas were calculated and recorded. For grip strength; hand and finger grip strengths were measured. The data obtained were analyzed with SPSS.23 package programe and Pearson correlation analyses were statistically evaluated at p<0.05 level to determine the relationship between the groups by independent sample t-test. Elite athletes had significantly higher experience, hand and finger grip strength, hand length, forearm circumference and lower BMI values than recreational athletes (p<0,01). Significant relationships were found between hand grip strengths, finger grip strengths, hand length and finger lengths in elite athletes, but no relationship was found in recreational athletes. Finger grip strengths were positively correlated with hand and wrist width. As a result, it can be said that especially hand anthropometry and grip strengths will contribute to the selection of elite level sport climbers.
Asiye Hande BaskanNihat SarialiogluMurat Kalayci

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/302

Sport is a tool which people transfer their lifestyles and what they learn from their environment in to their life. In addition to that, it is also an important attitude for athletes to exhibit fair play behaviour in the international arena. In this context, the aim of this research is to determine the meanings of hearing-impaired female national volleyball players regarding the concept of fair play through metaphors through their thoughts and experiences. The research consists of 20 female volleyball players in the candidate squad of the Turkish deaf Volleyball national team in the 2022-2023 season. Phenomenology pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. In obtaining the data, hearing-impaired volleyball players were asked to complete this sentence; ‘fair play is like/similar to …….., because ……’. Content analyse technique was used to analyse the data. According to the findings examination, the metaphors created by the hearing-impaired athletes participating in the research for the concept of ‘fair play’ were collected under the themes of ‘being an element of morality’, ‘being an element of justice’ and ‘being an element of goodness’ respectively. It is thought that dissaminating fair play training for disabled athletes and encouraging their positive behaviour by rewarding them will contribute to the spread of behaviours worthy of the sprit.
Mehmet Cem SatmanAylin Ozge Pekel

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/297

Handball is a team sport in which changing direction, running fast-slowly, jumping, throwing, throwing accuracy, and tackles are at the forefront. For basic throws in the game, throwing speed and accuracy are important factors for a successful throw. In this context, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of body composition, isokinetic strength, handgrip strength, and static and dynamic balance parameters on throwing speed and accuracy in handball players. A total of 20 male handball players with an average age of 14.95±0.24 years and an average sports age of 4.15±0.44 years participated in the study voluntarily. Body composition, static and dynamic balance, hand grip strength, shoulder and arm rotation, throwing velocity and accuracy tests were performed on the athletes. While a negative correlation was found between body weight (r=-0.61), body mass index (r=-0.66), body muscle mass (r=-0.5), body fat mass (r=-0.58), Body fat % (r=0.61), Dominant arm muscle (r=-0.52) parameters and throwing accuracy, a positive correlation was found between dominant hand grip (r=0.59) and dominant arm shoulder internal rotation strength (r=0.59), non-dominant arm shoulder internal rotation strength parameters and throwing velocity (p<0.05). No correlation was found in the static and dynamic balance parameter. In line with the findings of the study, the static and dynamic balance parameters of the handball players did not have an effect on the throwing velocity and accuracy. However, while anthropometric characteristics such as body weight, body fat percentage and mass, and muscle mass had an effect on throwing accuracy, it can be said that hand grip strength, isokinetic shoulder internal and external rotation strength were effective on throwing velocity.
Neslihan AkcayKerem Can YildizSezer TanrioverMehmet Ali KaniMustafa Sakir AkgulFatma Nese Sahin

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/329

This paper aims to propose an integrated model to evaluate sponsorship effectiveness in newly organized professional football teams. To achieve this, the effects of fan identification as the psychological connection of sports fans with a sports team, on sponsorship perceptions, such as attitude towards the sponsor and brand image, and sponsorship response, such as purchasing intention, were examined. In addition, the mediating role of consumer sponsor perceptions in the relationship between fan identification and purchasing intention was tested. The data were gathered from 255 fans of Alagöz Holding Iğdır football club. Confirmatory factor analyses (Amos 23 IBM) and PROCESS analyses (SPSS) was conducted in statistics. The findings supported our model, which proposes that fan identification has a direct impact on sponsorship perceptions and response, and that sponsorship perceptions mediate the relationship between fan identification and sponsor response. The main contribution of this paper is the incorporation of fan identification, attitude towards sponsor, sponsor brand image, and purchase intentions within an integrated sponsorship model, and testing of their interrelations which have not been empirically tested in the context of a newly formed professional football team. Practical implications for both sports team marketers and sponsors are explained in the paper.
Kadir Yagiz

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/296

The aim of this study is to determine the role of imagery and emotion regulation on the courage levels of athletes who continue their sports life as licensed in different sports branches. In line with this scope, a total of 609 athletes, 286 female and 383 male, participated in the study voluntarily. The research was designed with relational survey model. In the analysis of the data obtained in the study, missing data and extreme data analyses were performed first. Then, skewness and kurtosis values were examined for normality assumptions and it was determined that the distribution was normal. Accordingly, Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between the variables and Stepwise Regression analysis was used to determine the power of the independent variables in predicting the dependent variable. When the findings obtained within the scope of the research are examined, the analysis regarding the effect of imagery, cognitive reappraisal and suppression factors on the level of courage was completed in one stage. While cognitive reappraisal and suppression did not significantly affect the level of courage, imagery significantly affected the level of courage and contributed approximately 17% of the variance. In addition, the positive relationship between imagery and courage level shows that these two will increase linearly.
Yunus Emre YarayanDogukan Batur Alp Gulsen

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/365

The aim of the study is to investigate the attitudes and sport orientations of martial artists in different sectors in relation to gender, age, education level and sport experience. In this sense, the Attitudes Towards Challenge Sports and Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation Scale” was used as a data collection tool in the study. The study group consisted of a total of 310 active athletes, 236 male and 74 female athletes who actively participated in competitions. SPSS 28.0 program was used for data analysis. The t-test for independent samples and the ANOVA -test were used to compare the variables. According to the results of the study, no significance was found in the gender variable in the attitude of martial artists towards their branches. However, a statistically significant difference was found in the dimension of “respect for rules and management” according to the gender variable. In the sub-dimension “Respect for the opponent”, significance was found in favor of female athletes. In the “sub-dimension “Ambition” of athletes in different age groups, a significant value was found between age groups. In this context, the present results show that there are significant differences between athletes of different age groups in some subdimensions. While significant differences were found between age groups in the sub-dimensions of “ambition” and “respect for opponent”, there were no significant differences between age groups in other sub-dimensions. These results suggest that age may have an influence on the characteristics of athletes’ sportsmanship orientation. At the same time, although it was found that different levels of education could affect athletes’ attitudes toward martial arts, it was also clear that there were differences among different levels of education on the subdimensions of “sportsmanship orientation.”
Suat AybekAycen Aybek

The sample of the study consisted of 300 students studying in the Faculty of Sport Sciences and the Faculty of Education. “The Attitude Scale Towards Disabled People” was used to collect data in the study. According to the gender status of the students, a significant difference was found in the attitude towards disabled people in the sub-dimensions of educational environment, interpersonal relationships, work life, personal characteristics and competence independent living (p<0.05). According to the educational variable of the students’ mother and father, a significant difference was found in the attitude towards disabled people in the sub-dimensions of educational environment, interpersonal relations, working life, personal characteristics and competence independent living (p<0.05). According to the income status variable of the students, a significant difference was found in the attitude towards disabled people in the sub-dimensions of educational environment, interpersonal relations, work life, personal characteristics and competence independent living (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions of family life and personal characteristics (p>0.05). As a result, it was found that students’ attitudes towards disabled people were positive according to gender, monthly income, and educational level of mother and father. Although there was no significant difference in the attitude of students towards disabled people in terms of being disabled and study class, it can be said that the attitude is numerically positive. It is believed that disabled people should be more involved and active in society to improve the perception of disability in society.
Izzet Islamoğlu

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/382

This study investigates the Optimal Performance Mood State in sedentary women according to their behavioral change stages, perception of their health and appearance, and menstrual status. 774 sedentary women participated in the study. One-way analysis of variance was performed in statistical procedures. According to the behavioral change stages, a statistically significant change was found in the dimensions of task difficulty, awareness in action, clear goals, secondary notification, focus on the task, sense of control, transformation of time and experience of achieving the goal, and decrease in awareness subscales in optimal performance emotional state (p<0.001). When comparing the optimal performance mood and sub-dimension averages of sedentary women according to the “your health” variable, a statistically significant difference was found in all dimensions (p<0.05 and p<0.001). When comparing the optimal performance mood and sub-dimension averages of sedentary women according to the variable of your physical image relative to yourself, a statistically significant difference was found in all dimensions except decreased awareness (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was concluded that Optimal Performance Mood in sedentary women varies according to the stages of behavioral change and their perception of their health and appearance. As the exercise status of sedentary women increases, their optimal performance mood improves positively as they perceive their health as good and accept their appearance as good. Women should be encouraged to do sports regularly to improve their optimal performance mood, receive psychological support to perceive their health as good and encourage their desire to look beautiful. It may also be recommended that women receive support for regular menstruation to increase their optimal performance mood.
Orhan Ahmet SenerOsman Imamoglu

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/294

This study aims to investigate the psychophysiological responses of master swimmers from beginning to end of the Sochi-Giresun 320 km open water swimming event. Candidate swimmers were evaluated according to several criteria which are national and international competition experience, the ability to swim an average of 1 km in hour, experience in night swimming, and sports background. Selected from a total of 48 candidates from Turkey, Russia, and Germany, the group of 15 athletes comprises a balanced gender distribution, with 9 males and 3 females. Additionally, 3 reserve athletes were also identified. Participants were subjected of various assessments, including a personal information form, blood lactate sample, VAS scales and IZOF measurements. The research procedure involved VAS, IZOF and blood lactate measurements before swimming, transferring to the water according to their swimming order, commencing swimming upon the referee’s command, recording time and distance with GPS location, transferring to the ship after swimming round, collecting after swim VAS, IZOF, and blood lactate samples. Research findings revealed some psychological differences between nighttime and daytime open-water swimming results. Male swimmers exhibited higher levels of perceived stress level and perceived difficulty level. Factors negatively affecting performance included post-swim blood lactate levels, perceived fatigue, the difficulty of the swimming round, and perceived stress levels. These results indicate that athletes’ psychological states can vary individually and have complex effects on performance. The lower levels of stress and fatigue among athletes might be related with their participation in national and international competitions, relatively higher average age, and consequently elevated levels of performance and psychological maturity.
Kubilay CimenCengiz Karagozoglu

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/373

This study was designed to determine the common vestibular sensory-based motor skill problems in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the reactive behaviors caused by these problems and to create exercise recommendations targeting vestibular regulation. There is a mutual interaction between the vestibular system and the nervous system. In other words, while problems in the vestibular sense negatively affect cognitive processes, similarly, disorders/differences in the nervous system can have negative effects on the vestibular sense and negatively affect a number of developmental areas ranging from balance-oriented motor skills to cognitive and behavioral skills. Autism spectrum disorder is one of the neuro-developmental disorders in which there are negative effects on vestibular sensation caused by structural or functional impairment in the nervous system. Problems in the functioning of the vestibular system associated with ASD can lead to hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity responses to movements. These behaviors can cause significant problems in demonstrating the motor coordination needed in individuals' daily lives. As a result, problems in the vestibular system can lead to problems with motor learning, perceptual motor skills and learning. This sheds light on the basis of some of the problems seen in disorders of neurobiological origin (autism, etc.). Vestibular stimulus (regulation) exercise recommendations have been created for problems related to vestibular sensory integration.
Ekrem Akbuga

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/259

While no amount of physical activity can stop the aging process, a moderate amount of regular exercise can minimize the physiological effects of a normally sedentary individual's lifestyle, limit the development and progression of chronic diseases and disability, and increase active life expectancy. Muscle strengthening, flexibility and aerobic exercises should be suitable for older individuals. In addition, individuals at risk for falls or movement disorders should also do special exercises to improve balance. The intensity and duration of physical activity should initially be low for people who are severely dehydrated and have chronic conditions that prevent them from performing basic physical activities. Furthermore, the intensity of the exercises should be individualized and adapted to the preferences of the elderly. Incorporating behavior change principles into the design and implementation of exercise and physical activity programs will increase the individual's likelihood of initiating and maintaining a regular exercise and/or physical activity program. Social policies should be planned to maintain the physical function and improve the general health of the elderly with chronic diseases and disability. All older people, with and without disabilities, should be encouraged to develop a personalized physical activity plan that meets their needs and personal preferences.
Zuhal Ayhan

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/380

In Turkey, NSF are the only organizations responsible for the organization, management, and supervision of the sports branches. Therefore, it is great importance that SFs are structured and positioned correctly. At this point, the most correct form of structuring for NSFs is an autonomous structure completely free from political and economic pressures. In the research, it is aimed to evaluate the changes made in the relevant laws and regulations since 2004, within the framework of the basic requirements of autonomy in the international and national context. For this purpose, the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The elevant texts and articles since 2004 were examined and evaluated within the framework of the basic criteria of autonomy The data obtained was examined using the thematic compilation pattern, one of the descriptive analysis methods. According to the research findings, the autonomy NSFs has been weakened through the structure of the Arbitration Board, the removal of the authority to determine the criteria for presidential candidacy, the number of delegates that the GDS has in the General Assemblies of the Federation. As a result, it can be said that the autonomy of NSFs has been gradually weakened and they have become more dependent on politics.
Ozgun Parasiz

https://roljournal.com/index.php/rol/article/view/338

Since 1900, working hours have been systematically decreasing. Reducing working hours, increasing public holidays and granting various social rights to employees are obligations according to the universal declaration of human rights. However, when we look at the studies conducted in recent years, it has been seen that individuals who have more free time and use this time by participating in social, sports and cultural recreational activities contribute more to the institutions they work for. In this context, many public and private organizations in our country and around the world are carrying out various studies to determine the advantages and disadvantages of the 4-day working system. The purpose of this study is to examine the free time that the 4-day working system provides to the individual and what kind of gains this time provides to the individual in both recreational and sports terms by systematic data scanning. When the results obtained are evaluated. It is seen that the 4-day working system allows the participants to be more social in terms of free time, and that most individuals who have more free time experience positive developments in both their social and psychological well-being, and in terms of workplace performance, an increase in work efficiency is observed. Although this practice provides positive feedback for both individuals and employers in most sectors, it should be known that this practice cannot be applied in every sector (service, health, tourism, etc.).
Ahmet Tarik ErguvenNurullah Emir EkinciKoc Mustafa Can
