Abstract

Uncertainty about COVID-19 has caused fear in people and athletes. It is emphasized that the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are quite large and therefore it is reported that it is important to evaluate such fears. The sample of the research consist of total 299 participants, 190 men and 109 women, made an application to Sanliurfa Harran University School of Physical Education and Sports and residing in different cities and determined by random sampling method. Covid-19 scale is originally developed by Ahorsu et al. (2020). It was adapted to Turkish by Bakioğlu, Korkmaz, Ercan (2020). The five-point Likert-type scale consists of one dimension and 7 items. There is no reverse item in the scale. The total score obtained from all items of the scale reflects the level of fear of coronavirus (Covid-19) experienced by the individual. The scores that can be obtained from the scale range between 7 and 35. High scores from the scale mean experiencing high levels of coronavirus fear. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was determined as.88. In this study, the Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was found to be .82. In the study, descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of data, the t-test for the comparison of binary groups, and one[1]way Anova analysis for the comparison of multiple groups. Before the analysis, the normal distribution of the data was examined according to the values of skewness and flatness (+1.0, -1.0) and it was determined that the data were distributed normally. According to the results of the research, the average score of the candidates for this scale is 16.46. This calculated score is below the mid-point value 21 of the scale, it can be said that the perception levels of the candidates for fear of COVID-19 are low.
