Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the current nutritional knowledge levels of Sports High School students and to examine the effect of nutrition education given to these students at certain intervals on their nutritional knowledge levels.  A total of 160 students consisting of 9th, 10th and 11th grade students of Sports High School voluntarily participated in the study. The participating students were randomly divided into two equal groups as experimental (N=80; 15.96±0.80) and control (N=80; 15.96±0.80) groups. "Nutrition Knowledge Level Test" was administered to determine the nutritional knowledge level of the participants. After the test was administered to the students, both groups continued their normal classes. Only the experimental group received nutrition education for 1 hour twice a week for 4 weeks. After the training, both groups were administered the nutrition knowledge test again and a pre-post test comparison was made. Kolmogrov Smirnov test was applied to determine the suitability of the data for normal distribution.  According to these results, it was determined that the data did not show normal distribution and Wilcoxon method was used in intragroup analysis and Man Whitney U method was used in intergroup analysis. According to the results of the study, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group both within and between groups (p<0.05). Consequently, it was determined that there was a 47.5% increase in the nutritional knowledge level of the experimental group with nutrition education.
