Abstract

The aim of the research is to investigate the conspicuous consumption tendencies in social media of the students of the sports management department within the framework of Bartın University in terms of various variables. In this context, the general survey model which is consistent with the general purpose of the study was used in this quantitative study. The sample of the study consists of a total of 198 students, 102 female and 96 male. Convenience sampling method, which is one of the non-probability sampling methods, was used in the selection of the research group. A scale form was used as a data collection tool and this form consists of two parts. In the first part of the scale form, there is the “Personal Information Form” and in the second part there is the “Conspicuous Consumption Tendency Scale in Social Media (CCTSM)”. The descriptive statistics of the raw data obtained through the scale form were first calculated by considering the data type. Then, the reliability of the scales related to the data obtained was investigated, and the difference and correlation tests were used in the statistical evaluation. In this direction, significant differences were found in terms of gender, personal income level, family income level, licensed sportsman history and mostly preferred device for accessing social media tools variables. However, no significant difference or correlation was found in the sub-dimensions of the scale within the scope of other variables.
